She was born June 27, 1940 in Dayton, OH, the daughter of the late Bailey and Bertha Phillips. II, Hope Miller decided to return to his home community of Hillsboro to form a partnership in the funeral business. In 1959 he decided to open his own business as a sole proprietor at our present location. In October 1981, Hope Miller Funeral Home, Inc. was formed when Steven W. Thompson joined the business.
Hope and Steve worked together to serve the Hillsboro Community until Hope retired in April of 1986. It was always John’s wish to be eaten by bears and come back to the earth as bear poop. John is survived by his sisters Shelley L. Caldwell of West Union, OH and Rebecca L. Lyle of West Union, OH and preceded in death by brother Victor C. Caldwell. David and his wife, Linda, have two college aged children and are active members of their church. II, the community of Sinking Spring was without a funeral home. While Jeff was in the service, his former employer Ott Tener had died.

In January 1986, the present day owner, Steve W. Thompson, purchased the business from Leona, who continued living at the funeral home until 1999, when Leona decided to move to Waverly. Julia Mae Adams, 55, of Seaman, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2022 at Hospice of Hope Inpatient in Seaman. She was born November 12, 1967 in Alberta, Canada, daughter of Chester Graham of Chillicothe and the late Jerry Priscilla Paden Graham. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Deborah Bynum, Leah Patzer and Joanna Philpot.
John was an active member of his community and served on numerus boards and councils. He was a practicing attorney in his county for many years and held various public office positions. He helped coach his children’s little league teams as well as coach pee wee football when he moved to West Union. He also enjoyed being a leader of Boy Scout Troop 60 and Explorer Post. This is where he began his love of camping and hiking for many years including several trips to the Appalachian Trail.
